چکیده
A great earthquake struck the Semidi segment of plate boundary along Alaska Peninsula on 29 July 2021, re-rupturing part 1938 rupture zone. The 2021 MW 8.2 Chignik occurred just northeast 22 2020 7.8 Simeonof earthquake, with little slip overlap. Analysis teleseismic P and SH waves, regional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) displacements, near-field far-field tsunami observations provides a good resolution process. During ?60-s long faulting, was nonuniformly distributed megathrust over depths from 32 to 40 km, up ?12.9-m in an ?170-km-long patch. 40–45 km down-dip limit is well constrained by GNSS Peninsula. Tsunami preclude significant extending <25 confining all coseismic beneath shallow continental shelf. Most aftershocks locate seaward large-slip zones, concentration activity up-dip deeper southwestern Some localized aftershock patches slope. surface-wave magnitude MS 8.1 for smaller than = 8.3–8.4 event. Seismic data indicate that concentrated eastern region its zone, beyond Islands, where event did not rupture.

Structural control on the Tohoku earthquake rupture process investigated by 3D FEM, tsunami and geodetic data
The 2011 Tohoku earthquake (Mw = 9.1) highlighted previously unobserved features for megathrust events, such as the large slip in a relatively limited area and the shallow rupture propagation. We use a Finite Element Model (FEM), taking into account the 3D geometrical and structural complexities up to the trench zone, and perform a joint inversion of tsunami and geodetic data to retrieve the ea...
متن کاملTsunami early warning using earthquake rupture duration
[1] Effective tsunami early warning for coastlines near a tsunamigenic earthquake requires notification within 5–15 minutes. We have shown recently that tsunamigenic earthquakes have an apparent rupture duration, T0, greater than about 50 s. Here we show that T0 gives more information on tsunami importance than moment magnitude, Mw, and we introduce a procedure using seismograms recorded near a...
متن کاملModeling near‐field tsunami observations to improve finite‐fault slip models for the 11 March 2011 Tohoku earthquake
[1] The massive tsunami generated by the 11 March 2011 Tohoku earthquake (Mw 9.0) was widely recorded by GPS buoys, wave gauges, and ocean bottom pressure sensors around the source. Numerous inversions for finite‐fault slip time histories have been performed using seismic and/ or geodetic observations, yielding generally consistent patterns of large co‐seismic slip offshore near the hypocenter ...
متن کاملCo - seismic slip from the 1995 July 30 Mw = 8 . 1 Antofagasta , Chile , earthquake as constrained by InSAR and GPS observations
S U M M A R Y We analyse radar interferometric and GPS observations of the displacement field from the 1995 July 30 Mw = 8.1 Antofagasta, Chile, earthquake and invert for the distribution of slip along the co-seismic fault plane. Using a fixed fault geometry, we compare the use of singular-value decomposition and constrained linear inversion to invert for the slip distribution and find that the...
متن کاملSeismic study and spatial observations of a & b – values for the different earthquake hazard zones of India
This paper study the recent seismicity in Earthquake hazard zones in India. A large historical earthquake event catalog to cover the period of 1900-2018, the parameters date, time, latitude, longitude, depth and magnitude has been used to calculating frequency-magnitude distribution (b-value) of seismic hazard zones in India. To convert different magnitude scales into a single moment magnitude ...
